Proton beam therapy (PBT) offers advantages over conventional photon therapy due to its precise dose delivery and potential for sparing healthy tissue. However, the variable relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of protons, particularly at the distal edge of the spread-out Bragg peak, presents challenges for accurate treatment planning. This study investigates and compares different approaches for modeling radiation-induced DNA damage, specifically focusing on single-strand breaks (SSBs) and double-strand breaks (DSB), with the aim of improving biological effect prediction in PBT treatment planning.
